CRAIGELLACHIE - ANDY & ALLAN GRANT
For Us, The Proof Is In The Pudding
Andy first engaged with fertigation systems back in 2015.
A consultation was quickly underway to establish the scope of potential for their properties.
Fertigation Systems commenced by designing and installing a functional and beneficial system for one farm.
This approach was taken to allow Andy the opportunity to observe and operate a fully functional & correctly operating system, experiencing the true standard of service provided by Fertigation Systems. Once commissioned, the entire operations team on farm were brought in for training on the system. Written instructions were provided to ensure any changes in staff or delivery drivers were aware of the process to follow.
As Andy was satisfied with the quality of this fertigation equipment, he asked for another fertigation system on his second dairy farm.
The installed systems are still operating on these two properties and have been providing Andy with 4 years of savings and other benefits
PRACTICAL APPLICATION: THE BENEFITS
We asked Andy and Allan what they thought the true benefits of fertigation were:
→ No trucks are needed to apply Nitrogen to the farm which reduces soil compaction and no gates are left open.
→ There is an accurate record of where the fertiliser has been applied.
→ Grass growth is more constant which makes it easier to manage & our grazing management is better.
→ We have saved money as we have used less fertiliser.
→ Clover content of our pastures has increased.
Has the urea affected the Pivots?
→ No, the amount of Liquid urea that we are injecting is very small compared to the amount of water that is being applied. For example, 100 litres of Liquid N is 19 units of N and that is being mixed with 100,000 litres of water when applying 10 mm of water per hectare. Very weak dilution of 1:1000.
